Saturdays are for the party animals, food gastronomes and for celebrating life, love and victories.
Florida road being the heart of Durban and with two birthdays to celebrate, we decided to check out the buzz at Butcher Block to satisfy the prolonged curiosity we had harbored over the months. Reserving a table beforehand was a good idea in preparation for our Saturday dinner.
Parking on a Saturday night in Florida road is like looking for a black cat in a coal cellar – IMPOSSIBLE! So parking at Whilson’s Wharf or Suncoast and taking an uber to Florida road, is safer and more viable.
Okay so back at Butcher’s Block, we arrived promptly and were greeted by a busy restaurant with a noisy, bustling ambience, a retro-themed layout with modern furnishing, perfect lighting and a separate bar area, oh and a wine cellar. The restaurant has an additional patio seating at the back, with fairy lights and a private dining area for special occasions, giving off the celebrity aura.
THE GOOD :
Apart from its reputation of a good steak house, their menu included poultry and seafood varieties, not only famous for their prime cuts but also for their burgers which my dinner guests were crazy over.
A very serious wine list with some of the finest wines, from a rich Cabernet Sauvignon to a fruity merlot and bubbly bubbles, suited for every occasion. A good selection of cocktails, from the usual classics to exotic creations.
THE BAD:
A very poor seating plan – could be improved to suit a large crowd of people and a better utilization of space.
